Allas represents a contemporary design studio driven by a multi-angle, hybrid approach. Allas is focused on craftsmanship and technology to create functional and thoughtful design outcomes. Focused on material honesty, independent thinking, and deep respect for the making process, my practice combines design, art and innovation.
A passion for creating has driven my journey as an emerging designer. This project started as an attempt to create a sustainable outcome. The initial idea was to use recycled wood from pallets to create adjustable-height legs and have the top joints downloadable and printable with 3D filament, making them accessible online.
Throughout the process, I have discovered that this may not be as simple as I thought. As a designer, my responsibility is to think and consider all aspects of the design outcome. Balancing the creation, understanding, and refinement can be very tricky.
Engaging with this complexity has helped me to shape my understanding of who I am as a designer, and that design is also a philosophical practice. This seamless design combines 3D printing with precision CNC-cut plywood.
The whole project started with a single piece of veneer and my admiration for its beauty. I have noticed how the light amplifies the complexity of the grain lines. I discovered how light shining through it can emphasise and transform the layers and years of growth. I have also wanted to challenge myself and create an outcome that combines controlled fabrication with traditional craftsmanship. The ambience of the internal illumination translates into shape and atmosphere. The result is a statement piece that represents growth and beauty.
SYMBIOSIS design is reflected through the lens of a vibrant, diverse, and creative community of young individuals. The goal was to reimagine the library not as a static archive but as a hub of inspiration, connection, collaboration, and exploration. At the heart of my design is a desire to restore the relationship between users and the physical book. Drawing from observations of the space, I have prioritised how people feel in the space. I want students to not only navigate the library with ease but also to discover comfort and their own space within it. To support this, I have implemented a colour-coordinated functional design that intuitively guides movement and interaction. The space offers flexibility, quiet reflection, focused study, and dynamic collaboration. Books are integrated into the user experience, encouraging spontaneous engagement and deeper connection.
The interior design concept draws inspiration from the homes of the very first European settlers in Queensland. It celebrates the blend of European influences with the unique Australian environment. It integrates native species wood flooring, carved-out trunk furniture and rusted corrugated panelling. The result is an interior that honours the legacy of early settlers while offering a serene retreat rooted in authenticity, natural beauty and a touch of modernism.
